Race to the End of the World

Race to the End of the World

Montauk - Sep 07.

Race day began with scattered showers that caused a slight delay, but by 6:20 am, we were on our way, fueled by determination despite already facing setbacks. Unfortunately, we were down to just a two-member team due to issues with two of our riders. We knew the challenges ahead would be even tougher, especially competing against teams with a full six riders, but our spirits were high, and we were eager to race.

We started strong, sticking with the main peloton as we reached the Jamaica checkpoint. However, the wet conditions from the early rain meant debris and glass littered the roads, setting the stage for what would become our biggest challenge of the day: flat tires. Our first flat came not long after Jamaica, and we pushed on, only to face a second puncture soon after. We began to question our luck and even our Tubolito tubes as we faced yet another flat—our third of the day. By this point, we were no longer racing; we were chasing, fighting to stay in the game.

Despite the series of setbacks, our team's spirit never wavered. We pulled together, focused on the goal, and committed to finishing the race as a unit. Each flat tire was a lesson in resilience, and though we knew our chances of placing were slipping away, our determination to cross the finish line never faltered.

In the end, we finished the race, proud of our perseverance through all the challenges. This race was a test of our resolve, and while we didn’t have the outcome we initially hoped for, we gained valuable experience and camaraderie that will fuel our future endeavors. We're looking forward to our next race, ready to show what OBK Cycling Team is made of.

Onward to the next challenge! Stay tuned for more adventures from the OBK crew.
